Clamoroso arrivo della prima mostra personale dell’artista giapponese Yayoi Kusama: Infinite Love nelle grandi sale del SFMOMA nel nord della Califormia. Yayoi Kusama è una delle figure artistiche più famose al mondo. La ricerca artistica dell’artista giapponese Yayoi Kusama nata nel 1929 a Matsumoto, in Giappone, ha raggiunto il successo in Patria e negli ’60 a New York dove si è affermata come artista pionieristica d’avanguardia mettendo in scena performance, eventi e mostre rivoluzionarie. Dal 1973 è tornata in Giappone a Tokyo dove vive e lavora. Il suo lavoro ha ottenuto un rinnovato riconoscimento diffuso alla fine degli anni ’80 a seguito di numerose importanti mostre personali internazionali. Ha creato il suo primo ambiente specchiato nel 1965, la sua prima Infinity Mirror Room oscurata nel 2000, e da allora ha costruito oltre 20 di queste installazioni che sono diventate le preferite dal pubblico di tutto il mondo. Nel 1993, Kusama ha rappresentato il Giappone al 45° Biennale di Venezia, riscuotendo grandi consensi dalla critica, e nel 1994 inizia a realizzare sculture all’aperto. L’artista ha sempre puntato a valorizzare la vita grazie alla scelta di una simbologia di forme geomentriche soft, morbide come i pois.
L’evento aperto al pubblico dal 14 ottobre 2023 al 07 settembre 2024 è una grande occasione per conoscere l’ultimo lavoro di Kusama intitolato Dreaming of Earth’s Sphericity, I Would Offer My Love (2023), presentato per la prima volta a New York presso la prestigiosa galleria Zwimer. Yayoi Kusama con Infinite Love presenta l’ultima suggestiva installazione performativa Infinity Mirror Room, un’opera d’arte che coinvolge il pubblico regalando la magia del surreale e della sensazione di sogno, si mescolano gli stili e le tendenze artistiche dall’arte Pop sino ad arrivare all’arte psichedelica o cinetica. Le pareti delle stanze sono ricoperte da specchi per ottenere gli effetti di luoghi infiniti e anche stranianti. Queste opere racchiudono l’esperienza artistica dell’artista. Dreaming of Earth’s Sphericity, I Would Offer My Love del 2023, accoglie lo spettatore in un universo di luci multicolori, uno spazio immenso fra i grandi punti acrilici colorati che si alternano in un gioco di luce e riflessi sulle superfici specchianti.
Con la realizzazione di questa grande mostra personale di Yayoi Kusama: Infinite Love si vuole dimostrare l’impegno di SFMOMA di presentare il lavoro di artisti asiatici e AAPI, inclusa la prima retrospettiva di Pacita Abad in questo autunno, una galleria di dipinti e disegni di Hung Liu e mostre collettive attuali e future con opere chiave della collezione del museo degli artisti giapponesi Yoko Ono, Tatsuo Miyajima, Rakuko Naito, Tadaaki Kuwayama e Takashi Arai, tra gli altri. SFMOMA è anche riconosciuto per la sua significativa collezione di fotografie giapponesi.

Clamorous arrival of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s first solo exhibition Yayoi Kusama: Infinite Love in the grand halls of SFMOMA in Northern California. Yayoi Kusama is one of the most famous artistic figures in the world. The artistic pursuit of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan, achieved success in her homeland and in the 1960s in New York, where she established herself as a pioneering avant-garde artist creating groundbreaking performances, events and exhibitions. Since 1973 she has returned to Japan, to Tokyo, where she lives and works. Her work gained new recognition in the late 1980s following several major international solo exhibitions. She created her first mirrored environment in 1965, her first darkened Infinity Mirror Room in 2000, and has since built more than 20 such installations that have become favorites with audiences around the world. In 1993, Kusama represented Japan at the 45th Venice Biennale, receiving great critical acclaim, and in 1994 she began making outdoor sculptures. The artist has always focused on enhancing life through her choice of a symbology of soft, geomentric forms, as fluffy as polka dots.

The spaces in the rooms become an explosion of color with psychedelic installations titled Infinity Mirror Rooms about this series of works she states ” …Enter the place of colors.

This exhibition is an important opportunity for contemporary art lovers to experience the Japanese artist’s aesthetic quest with her Pois, circles that are all colorful and harmonious and ready to engage an increasingly intrigued audience, almost hypnotized by the energy the circles release into the atmosphere.
Yayoi Kusama with Infinite Love presents the latest evocative performance installation Infinity Mirror Room, a work of art that engages the audience by giving the magic of the surreal and the sensation of dreaming, art styles and trends from Pop art to psychedelic or kinetic art are mixed. The walls of the rooms are covered with mirrors to achieve the effects of infinite and even alienating places. These works encapsulate the artist’s artistic experience. Dreaming of Earth’s Sphericity, I Would Offer My Love from 2023, welcomes the viewer into a universe of multicolored lights, an immense space between the large colored acrylic dots that alternate in a play of light and reflections on the mirrored surfaces.
The creation of this major solo exhibition of Yayoi Kusama: Infinite Love is intended to demonstrate SFMOMA’s commitment to showcasing the work of Asian and AAPI artists, including Pacita Abad’s first retrospective this fall, a gallery of Hung Liu’s paintings and drawings, and current and future group exhibitions featuring key works from the museum’s collection by Japanese artists Yoko Ono, Tatsuo Miyajima, Rakuko Naito, Tadaaki Kuwayama and Takashi Arai, among others. SFMOMA is also recognized for its significant collection of Japanese photographs.
