Carmela Brunetti: Dagli anni ‘ 70 ad oggi la collezione di quante opere vanta?
Micol Forti: L’arte e la cultura in generale è un settore gravemente colpito dalla pandemia Covid 19. Grazie ai canali del web, della multimedialità si va avanti perché si crea un ponte con il pubblico. Questi settori vanno conosciuti ed incentivati. Molti non sanno che esiste questa collezione, perché il nostro tempo spesso non viene studiato neanche a scuola, è un periodo complesso e ci si concentra soprattutto sull’opera dei grandi maestri come Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, solo per citarne alcuni. In musei come il Louvre, il British Museum ed il Metropolitan seppur hanno opere contemporanee,il grande pubblico conoscono le loro icone: la Gioconda al Louvre, il Laoconte in Vaticano, il Parthenon al British Museum. Nel 2023 il settore contemporaneo dei Musei Vaticani compie 50 anni di vita, è davvero giovane, mentre il MoMa ha superato il secolo e tutti lo conoscono come il più grande museo di arte contemporanea. Le opere sono 8600 è l’unico settore che si ingrandisce anno dopo anno. Il desiderio di Paolo VI era che questa area del museo doveva essere destinata al contemporaneo per confrontarsi con le diverse epoche e permettere agli artisti di incontrare la spiritualità...

The beauty of the ancient and modern art of the works of the Vatican Museums, such as the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel, can make us forget that in this wonderful venue there is also an important and conspicuous collection of contemporary works of art, to better know its history we contact the manager of the Micol Forti collection.
Carmela Brunetti: From the 70s to today, how many works does the collection boast?
Micol Forti: Art and culture in general is a sector seriously affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. Thanks to the web channels, multimedia is moving forward because a bridge is created with the public. These sectors must be known and encouraged. Many do not know that this collection exists, because our time is often not studied even at school, it is a complex period and we focus above all on the work of great masters such as Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, just to name a few. In museums such as the Louvre, the British Museum and the Metropolitan, although they have contemporary works, the general public knows their icons: the Gioconda in the Louvre, the Laoconte in the Vatican, the Parthenon in the British Museum. In 2023 the contemporary sector of the Vatican Museums is 50 years old, it is really young, while the MoMa has passed the century and everyone knows it as the largest museum of contemporary art. There are 8600 works, it is the only sector that grows year after year. Paul VI’s desire was that this area of the museum should be destined for the contemporary to confront the different eras and allow artists to encounter spirituality.
